2021 First Communion Information for Religious Education Families
First Eucharist Masses
Saturday, May 1, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Congratulations! Your child is preparing to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. It is important that you help your child get ready to receive Communion in a way that respects the safety of your child and others. You are sending an impressive message by having your child receive First Eucharist during a pandemic. It is clear that the gathering, the party, and the gifts are second to what is really important, and that is the reception of Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. It is an honor and a privilege to offer this special day to the Religious Education Families of St. Philip the Apostle Parish. If you need assistance in preparing, or have any questions, feel free to reach out anytime. God bless you and your family with lasting health and happiness in the years to come.
Fondly, Nancy McKnight
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
If your family’s last name begins with A through G, you will attend the 11:00 a.m. Mass.
If your family’s last name begins with H through Z, you will attend the 1:30 p.m. Mass.
.
Enter through Door 11, the Gym Door. The door will open 45 minutes before Mass begins.
All families must arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to the start of Mass.
Only members of your immediate household (those who live with you) may attend.
Please email [email protected] to report how many will be attending that day.
EVERYONE WHO ATTENDS MUST WEAR A MASK
Make sure your child/ren know how to wear a face mask correctly—over the nose and mouth.
Upon entering the gym, you will be greeted and checked-in. The check-in process includes temperature taking, answering COVID-19 protocol questions, and using hand sanitizer.
Your family will proceed to the church where you will be welcomed by an usher who will show you to your seat.
Please have the First Communicant seated on the aisle toward the center of the church.
WHAT TO DO AT HOME TO PREPARE
Help your child practice the reception of the host. (Holding the dominant hand under the non-dominant hand.)
· An usher will invite your family to stand and move into the aisle.
· Each family member will receive hand sanitizer from the usher. Please use it properly.
· Keeping your masks on, your family will approach the priest with the First Communicant leading your group.
· Each person will receive the host.
· Keep the host in your hand while moving to the designated area.
· Carefully remove one side of the mask and consume the host.
· Parents should consume first, then help their children.
· Replace your masks and return to your seat.
· Children not of age to receive, or non-Catholics, may cross their arms over their chest to receive a blessing.
